FAQ - Prevention Education

How much time does being part of the Youth 4 Truth Peer Team require?

We begin our season with a week long, out of town retreat-usually the last week in June.  During the summertime, each individual will set an allotted amount of time to continue rehearsing and or training with the Director.  Every Thursday night from 7-9, the m meets either to continue rehearsing or to maintain fellowship.  Beginning in August, the team begins performances once or twice a month.  Special events including Rock The Desert are scheduled occasionally.  Your team membership commitment is one year.

What is required for the audition and interview process?

Each applicant is scheduled for an individual audition/interview time.  All applicants are required to complete an application and interview.  Acting applicants must read a scene selected by the director or read a prepared, memorized piece no longer than 1 ½ minutes.  Acing applicants may be called back to read with another for duet purposes.  Singing applicants must come prepared to sing a 1 ½ minute memorized song.  CD player is provided.  Technical applicants must complete application and interview.

Do I qualify for scholarship or community service hours by being a member of Youth 4 Truth?

Youth 4 Truth is a recognized non-profit community service venue.  By being part of the team, you will qualify for Abell-Hanger Foundation hours as well as Texas Scholar hours.  The Patricia Thames scholarship is available for application by any member of Youth 4 Truth that has completed a two year commitment.

What are the age requirements of Youth 4 Truth?  Are there any other requirements?

Applicants must be 16 or older.  We have all ages on the team-oldest to date is 23.  Other requirements include maintaining sexual purity, attending rehearsals on time and maintaining grade point averages.

How do I get out of school for Youth 4 Truth performances?

Youth 4 Truth is a district approved program.  This allows excused absences from your classes on performance days.  The Director faxes or e-mails schools in advance to let them know you will be absent.  You are still responsible for any work missed and are encouraged to complete and turn in all assignments/tests before scheduled absences.

What are days of performance like?

Performances are usually scheduled well in advance.  The uniform consists of jeans, tennis shoes and matching Youth 4 Truth t-shirts.  Depending on travel time, we meet at an appointed time (sometimes very early) at The Life Center, 2101 W. Wall, Midland, TX.  Supplied breakfast burritos and juice boxes are the norm after all of the equipment, props and costumes are loaded in the trailer.  We travel together in employee vehicles.  Each team member has a set-up and tear-down responsibility-sound, lights, costumes etc….Perform 1 or possibly 2 performances….load up trailer, eat lunch/snack and travel back to The Life Center and unload and store equipment.  We occasionally have an overnight trip.
